The Best Pizza in Sarasota
Everyone knows that if you ask someone about their favorite pizza they’re bound to have a strong opinion. What style of pizza is the best? Chicago, Detroit, or New York style? Or should we discuss based on the origin of pizza and branch out to Neopolitan and Sicilian-style pizzas?
Next the controversy of toppings. What kind of cheese? Red or white pizza? And the ever mindbending question of, does pineapple belong on pizza? If you can make it that far into the conversion, you may hear about someone’s favorite pizza place, which can bring on another battle for the best pie.
All that to say, if you are looking for the best pizza in Sarasota, look no further. We’ve tried countless places and purchased many unfortunate, mediocre pizzas, to share the best pizza in Sarasota. Each restaurant is unique in its environment, toppings, crust style, and more!
Atmosphere
If you are looking for authentic Neopolitan pizza head over to Atmosphere. This small family-owned restaurant makes all of its pizza in a wood-fired oven with ingredients imported from Italy! They have both red and white pizzas as well as panuozzo, which is a traditional pizza sandwich from Naples. While of course, their primary focus is pizza, be sure to check out their Facebook page for weekly pasta specials so you can try the homemade lasagna or mushroom chicken rigatoni.
Our favorite pizzas at Atmosphere:
- Bianche e Nero: Zucchini, porcini, black truffle, and fresh mozzarella.
- 6 Formaggi: A blend of 6 cheeses including mozzarella, parmesan, pecorino romano, ricotta, gorgonzola, and smoked gouda.
- Margherita: The classic with tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and basil.
- Burrata e Prosciutto: Arugula, shaved parmesan, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto de Parma, and burrata.

Capo Pazzo
Another spot for the best pizza in Sarasota is Capo Pazzo which is a tiny restaurant with big flavor! They have classic round NY-style pizzas and sfincione, or Silician-style pizza. In Italian, sfincione means “thick sponge” which perfectly describes this thicker, chewy pizza dough! It’s very similar to Detroit-style but the tiniest bit less thick.
Our favorite pizzas at Capo Pazzo:
- Pazzo Pepperoni: Pepperoni pizza with homemade hot honey, I recommend this one Sicilian-style.
- Frank White: Ricotta, mozzarella, caramelized onion, and sesame seed crust.
- MVP: Marinara, vodka sauce, pesto, and mozzarella available in either the Sicilian or NY style.

Origin Pizza
If you want to try pizza with non-traditional ingredients Origin Pizza & Beer. But before I get to the pizza, let me first encourage you to try their chicken wings with trifecta sauce. They are some of the best wings in Sarasota! Pizzas I recommend at Origin are:
- Popeye’s: Spinach, shrimp, olive oil, pesto drizzle, garlic olive oil base
- Siesta Sands: Garlic olive oil base, goat cheese, spinach, arugula, sun-dried tomato
- 1837 Chicken: BBQ or trifecta sauce base and drizzle, chicken, cheese
- The Za’tar: Oregano, thyme, marjoram, sesame seeds, coriander, Mediterranean relish

Tralia
Tralia is located in Gulf Gate and is a great place to order pizza for take-out! They offer both Neapolitan-style pizza and Detroit deep-dish pizza all made with fresh sourdough crust! Each of their pizzas has the perfect balance of toppings creating flavor pairings you didn’t know you needed until now.
Our favorite pizzas at Tralia:
- Funghi: Garlic cream base with grilled oyster mushrooms, goat cheese, and truffle oil.
- Sausage and Peppers: Fennel pork sausage, marinated sweet peppers, and caramelized onions.
- ‘Roni and Hot Honey: Pepperoni pizza with hot honey.

Clasico
Clasico is not only one of our favorite Italian restaurants in Sarasota, but it also has some of the best pizza in Sarasota! All of their pizzas are Neopolitan-style perfectly baked in a woodfired oven. Make sure to make a reservation to this popular downtown Sarasota restaurant in advance and do yourself a favor by ordering the arancini with creamy parmesan sauce to start.
Our favorite pizzas at Clasico:
- Fig & Proscuitto: Always number 1. This white pizza has a fig sauce and is topped with mozzarella, goat cheese, prosciutto, arugula, and figs.
- Funghi Bianco: Shiitake and crimini mushrooms, cipollini onions, and smoked mozzarella over a garlic cream sauce.
- Curing Room: Pepperoni, soppressata, Italian sausage, mozzarella, tomato sauce, and shaved parmesan

Jet’s Pizza
For chain pizza places, the best pizza in Sarasota is hands down, Jet’s Pizza. They have locations all over the U.S. but it’s still a great place to get a Detroit-style pizza. You can get classic supreme, cheese, or pepperoni but they also have chicken parmesan, barbecue chicken, and buffalo chicken pizza. We like to order a veggie pizza and pepperoni!
