The Best Donuts in Sarasota & Nearby!
One of the first things I do anytime I move to a new city is try to find the best restaurants, ice cream shops, coffee shops, and donuts. Ice cream will always be my first love, but donuts come a close second and I can’t help but visit a new donut shop frequently. After all, once I moved to Sarasota it was one of the first things on my agenda! So without further rambling, here are some of the best donuts in Sarasota!
Five-O Donut Co.
I know I should save the best or last but omg the donuts from Five-O Donut Co are life-changing good. They’re sweet, but not SO sweet that you feel sick after eating one. They have your traditional donuts like glazed, chocolate iced, old-fashioned, and blueberry cake which are delicious however their fancy donuts are what sets Five-O apart from other donut shops. My favorites are the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, Cookie Monster, and Strawberry Shortcake but be sure to check their social media for weekly specials!

Meaney’s Mini Donuts
A donut shop that’s open late? Sign us up! Meaney’s Mini Donuts are exactly as the name describes mini donuts smaller than your childhood favorite Hostess donuts. Each batch of Meaney’s mini donuts is prepared fresh so you’ll get them piping hot! The second you bite into one you’ll notice that they taste similar to a funnel cake, but are a bit denser. These donuts are served with a variety of toppings like powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar but you can also dress them up with whipped cream, strawberries, or even Bavarian cream!

Mochinut
Mochinut might be the most unique donuts in Sarasota because they aren’t made from potato or wheat flour, instead they’re made with rice flour! The result is a chewy, dense texture that is absolutely delicious. I’ve had mochi donuts on a number of occasions in Japan so when I found out that Sarasota was getting a mochi donut shop I was thrilled! Mochinut is a chain donut spot but each franchise location is independently owned.
Mochinut has rotating flavors so be sure to check out their social media to see what’s new. Some of my favorites so far are the matcha, taro, churro, and black sesame. While you’re here also consider getting some bubble tea and a Korean corn dog!

Gold Star Donuts
Gold Star Donuts is a great place to get donuts in Sarasota from a mom-and-pop shop! Some of their special donuts include cinnamon sugar, blueberry cake, and applesauce. But they also have kolaches with sausage, cheese, and jalapeno! Craving something else? They also have croissants filled with strawberries and cream cheese.

Der Dutchman
I talk about Der Dutchman’s expansive breakfast buffet from time to time but what really shines at this Amish restaurant is their donuts! If you happen to visit when they have their orange cake donuts you MUST get a few of them. They have regular glazed or orange frosted, both terrific. However, if you are disappointed not to find an orange donut there don’t worry. All of their other flavors are great too! Personally, I think they have one of the best Long John’s in Sarasota too.

The Donut Experiment
Ever wanted to create your own custom donut? You can do exactly that at The Donut Experiment. While your hot, cake donuts are being made pick from a variety of icings like strawberry, vanilla, caramel, chocolate, maple, glaze, or their special flavor of the month. As far as toppings to choose from you can get your favorite childhood cereals, candies, or other sweet toppings like Reese’s Pieces, Fruity Pebbles, coconut, sprinkles, and more. But you’re not done there! Then you can pick out your favorite drizzle to top it all off like caramel, chocolate, peanut butter, raspberry, or another special.

Bradenton Donut Shop
Another traditional donut shop to visit in the area is Bradenton Donut Shop which has potato donuts in all of your favorite classics from old-fashioned cake donuts, apple fritters, maple, and jelly-filled. But Bradenton Donut Shop doesn’t just serve donuts! They also have a great breakfast menu and coffee so you can sit and enjoy your donuts in the diner or take them home.

Yummies Donuts and BBQ
Ever thought about trying a BBQ sandwich in a donut instead of a regular bun? Well at Yummies Donuts and BBQ you can have both – individually or together, whatever you wish! While the BBQ donut sandwich is a must-try for anyone intrigued by this combo, you can also get some of their regular donuts which are so fluffy and delicious! I love the lemon-filled, coconut, or any of their specialty ones!

Peachey’s Baking Company
Sadie Peachey alongside her brother Nate, uses their mother’s delicious sourdough donut recipe to bring you the most enormous fluffy vanilla-glazed donuts you’ll have in Sarasota. The only problem with Peachey’s Baking Company? They can be hard to find! You can most often get them from their food truck at the Phillippi Farmhouse Market and other festivals around Sarasota.
